ADOT opens federally funded EV fast-charging stations in Tucson and Green Valley
Two of Arizona's first three charging stations built under the federal NEVI program are now open in Pima County, on I-10 near Kino Parkway in Tucson and on I-19 at Verde Valley Center in Green Valley, the Arizona Department of Transportation says.
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) announced on Oct. 14, 2026, that Arizona's first three electric vehicle charging stations built under the federally funded National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program are open. Two of them are in Pima County.
Tucson. The station is on Interstate 10 near Kino Parkway, at Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q on East Ajo Way.
Green Valley. The station is on Interstate 19 at Verde Valley Center on East Duval Mine Road.
What drivers get. ADOT says most NEVI locations will have at least four 150-kilowatt direct current fast chargers and most will offer both NACS (Tesla) and CCS plugs, intended to charge a typical electric vehicle in 30 minutes or less. The stations are privately owned and operated; federal funds cover up to 80% of eligible costs, the private developer covers at least 20%, and no state funds are used.
Statewide. The third new station is in Wellton in Yuma County. ADOT administers $76.5 million in federal NEVI funding for as many as 79 stations in Arizona and has opened bidding on 49 more, with proposals due by 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2027.
