Coastal Flood Warning: Los Angeles County beaches, Malibu and Catalina — damaging sea-water flooding likely until 3 p.m. Sunday
The National Weather Service has a Coastal Flood Warning for the Malibu coast, Los Angeles County beaches and Catalina until 3 p.m. PDT Sunday, Oct. 11, with 5- to 8-foot surf Sunday. Stay out of the water and away from flooded beach roads.
The National Weather Service office in Los Angeles/Oxnard has a Coastal Flood Warning for the Malibu coast, Los Angeles County beaches, and Catalina and Santa Barbara islands until 3 p.m. PDT Sunday, Oct. 11. NWS says damaging sea-water flooding is likely at vulnerable south-facing beaches, especially Long Beach, Malibu, and Avalon and Pebbly Beach on Catalina. Other beaches and harbors can expect minor flooding, and major beach erosion is expected.
Surf: a High Surf Advisory runs from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. PDT Sunday, with surf of 5 to 8 feet and strong rip currents. NWS warns of a higher risk of ocean drowning; big waves can knock people off jetties and rocks.

What to do: stay out of the ocean. Keep off jetties, piers and seawalls when waves are breaking over them. Avoid flooded coastal roads and parking lots, and never drive around barricades. Move cars and belongings away from low-lying beachfront areas before high tide.
