San Mateo County: Jimmy O’Dea promoted to lead sustainability at Caltrans
San Mateo resident Jimmy O’Dea was appointed Deputy Director of Sustainability at Caltrans on Oct. 9, 2026, at $174,000 a year.
Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, appointed Jimmy O’Dea of San Mateo as Deputy Director of Sustainability at the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
O’Dea has been Caltrans’ assistant deputy director of transportation electrification since 2022. Before that he worked on trucks and off-road vehicles at CALSTART and as a vehicles analyst at the Union of Concerned Scientists. He holds a chemistry Ph.D. from UC Santa Barbara.
The job pays $174,000 a year and does not need Senate confirmation.
