Red Flag Warning: Tehama County, CA — critical fire weather from 7 a.m. PDT Sunday, Oct. 11

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Sacramento issued this Red Flag Warning at 10:16 a.m. PDT Saturday, Oct. 10. It is from 7 a.m. PDT Sunday, Oct. 11 until 5 a.m. PDT Monday, Oct. 12. A Red Flag Warning means critical fire weather is happening now or will start soon. It is the highest fire-weather alert NWS issues.

Where: Portions of the northern Sacramento Valley and nearby foothills: south-central Shasta County including the Redding area, the northern Sacramento Valley in Tehama County, and central Glenn County along Interstate 5. Parts of Tehama County are inside the warning area; check the NWS map to see whether your spot is included.

Weather: NWS forecasts North to northeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 mph, strongest Sunday morning, and humidity as low as 15 to 25 percent. NWS says any fire that develops will likely spread rapidly, and outdoor burning is not recommended.

What to do: do not burn yard debris, use a campfire or do anything that throws sparks (mowing dry grass, dragging trailer chains, target shooting). Do not park on dry grass. If a fire starts, call 911 right away. Know your evacuation route and keep your phone charged so you can get alerts.
