Who he was: HPD says Marcus Jacques Proctor was from Crowley, Louisiana, and was known in Houston as "LA." He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1993 and moved to the Houston area in 2002, where he had two sons he loved dearly. He graduated from the Commonwealth School of Funeral Services. His family describes him as a loving and caring son, father and brother.
What HPD says happened: On Saturday, July 2, 2016, at about 2:05 a.m., witnesses heard a gunshot on the 3300 block of Jewel Street. Neighbors found that a red Hyundai had crashed into a parked vehicle and that its driver, later identified as Proctor, had been shot. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Witnesses saw a tall, slim Black man in baggy clothing walking away on Gregg Street just after the shooting (HPD Incident #0848587-16).
