Georgia EPD takes comments through Nov. 13 on a Crooked Creek shoreline stabilization in Camden County

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division posted public notice CMV-020-26-03 for a request to work within the coastal marshland buffer of Crooked Creek to stabilize an eroding shoreline on a private residential property in Camden County. Comments are accepted through Nov. 13, 2026.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) Watershed Protection Branch posted a public notice for variance application CMV-020-26-03 in Camden County. The notice issue date is Oct. 15, 2026, and the 30-day comment period closes Friday, Nov. 13, 2026.

What is proposed. The project would stabilize an eroding shoreline on a private residential property along Crooked Creek. Planned work includes clearing compromised vegetation, grading, placing geotextile fabric and riprap, and erosion-control best management practices, with revegetation using multi-trophic native riparian species. The notice lists the application as a variance to encroach within the 25-foot state waters buffer and says the encroachments total 1,066 square feet along 172 linear feet within the coastal marshland buffer of Crooked Creek, in the Satilla watershed (HUC 03070203). Notice Nearby left out the property owners' names and address.

Legal basis. The request falls under the Georgia Erosion and Sedimentation Act (O.C.G.A. § 12-7-6 et seq.) and the Erosion and Sedimentation Control rules (Chapter 391-3-7), and is being considered under basis (a) of rule 391-3-7-.11(2). The application must include an erosion and sediment control plan that meets or exceeds the standards in the Manual for Erosion and Sediment Control in Georgia.

Have your say. EPD says it has no authority to zone property or decide land use, so only comments on environmental issues related to air, water and land protection will be considered. Put "Buffer Variance Comment" and the control number CMV-020-26-03 in the email subject line or at the top of written comments, and send them to EPDcomments@dnr.ga.gov or to EPD's Nonpoint Source Program, Erosion and Sedimentation Control, in Atlanta. Site plans are available for review in the Watershed Protection Branch File Room in Atlanta.

The public notice is on EPD's Counties A–F buffer variance page (https://epd.georgia.gov/requests-state-waters-buffer-variance-counties-f) and as a PDF (https://epd.georgia.gov/document/document/cmv-020-26-03-camden-county-public-notice/download).
