The Johnson County Auditor's Office announced on Oct. 5, 2026, a series of extended evening early-voting hours it calls "Voting After Dark" for the Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, General Election. Early voting in the county begins Wednesday, Oct. 14.
"Many people work the same hours we are open during the day and are busy with family activities on the weekends," Johnson County Auditor Julie Persons said in the announcement. "These evenings will give people the option to vote when it's convenient for them."
Where and when, per the county: at the Johnson County Auditor's Office in Iowa City, voting runs until 6 p.m. on Oct. 26 and Oct. 27 and until 8 p.m. on Oct. 28. At the Iowa City Public Library, it runs until 6 p.m. on Oct. 17, Oct. 26 and Oct. 27 and until 8 p.m. on Oct. 28. And at the Solon High School home football game on Oct. 23, you can vote until 8 p.m., which may be the only time a ballot and a halftime show share the same evening.
The perk: special "I Voted After Dark" stickers will be handed out only after 5 p.m. The county did not say whether they glow in the dark. We are choosing to believe.
