The Kentucky Water Transportation Advisory Board (WTAB) meets in person on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. Eastern time (noon to 2 p.m. Central) in Conference Room C106 of the Transportation Cabinet Office Building in downtown Frankfort, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said in a media advisory Oct. 12.
Public comment comes early. After welcome and introductions, the second item on the agenda is a public comment period. The board will then take up the minutes of its June 23, 2026, meeting.
Riverport projects. The board will get updates on open and closed projects in two state programs: Kentucky Riverport Improvement (KRI) grants and the Kentucky Public Riverport Construction and Maintenance (KPRCM) program. Members will also file and discuss conflict-of-interest statements.
Money for next year. The biggest part of the agenda is the fiscal year 2027 KPRCM program. The board will discuss the program, hear a summary of the applications the state received, and then review and rank which requests should be funded.
Ports study. The board will also discuss where the state stands on a study of the economic impact of Kentucky's ports and waterways before adjourning.
Why it matters. Kentucky's public riverports, on rivers such as the Ohio, Mississippi, Tennessee and Cumberland, move freight by barge. The board advises the Transportation Cabinet on its water transportation programs, including how state riverport money is spent.
