Harlan County: $2.2 million AMLER grant for new water lines in Cumberland (Oct. 9, 2026)
The City of Cumberland won $2.2 million from the federal Abandoned Mine Lands Economic Revitalization (AMLER) program, announced Oct. 9, 2026, in Corbin by Gov. Andy Beshear and U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers (KY-05).
The City of Cumberland in Harlan County, Kentucky, will receive $2.2 million to replace old water distribution lines and add new ones. The city expects the work to serve 194 households and 50 businesses in the first year after it is done.

It is one of nine AMLER awards worth more than $22 million for nine Eastern Kentucky counties. AMLER is federal money meant to help coal communities turn land and towns hurt by past mining into new jobs and services.
