Louisville: I-264 East closes Oct. 16-19 and I-264 West closes Oct. 23-26 between Westport Road and I-71 for paving
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says I-264 East will close from KY 1447 (Westport Road) to the I-264/I-71 split from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, to 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, and I-264 West will close over the same stretch from 8 p.m. Oct. 23 to 6 a.m. Oct. 26, for asphalt paving.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announced on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, two directional weekend closures of Interstate 264 (Watterson Expressway) in Louisville as part of its $130 million widening and improvement project on I-264 and U.S. 42 (Brownsboro Road).
First weekend, I-264 East. From 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, to 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, I-264 East is closed from mile point 20.7 at KY 1447 (Westport Road) to the I-264/I-71 split. KYTC’s detour is I-64 East to I-265 North to I-71 South, then I-71 South or I-264 West to reach places inside the closure.
Second weekend, I-264 West. From 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, to 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, I-264 West is closed from the I-264/I-71 split to mile marker 21 at KY 1447 (Westport Road). The I-264 West on-ramp from Westport Road stays open. KYTC’s detour is I-71 North to I-265 South to I-64 West to rejoin I-264 West, or I-64 East to reach places inside the closure.
Why. The closures let contract crews finish asphalt paving. As work goes on, traffic will be shifted from the outside lanes to the inside lanes along the whole project corridor.
The project. KYTC expects the interstate work to be finished by fall 2027. The contractor is Cleary Construction Inc. of Monroe County, Kentucky.
