The Johnson County Schools won $2.9 million from the federal Abandoned Mine Lands Economic Revitalization (AMLER) program, announced Oct. 9, 2026, in Corbin by Gov. Andy Beshear and U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers (KY-05).

The Johnson County Schools in Johnson County, Kentucky, will receive $2.9 million to grow the nursing and agriculture programs at the Johnson Central Career and Technical Center. Nursing students get simulation equipment that mimics real patient care. Agriculture students get high-tunnel greenhouses and farm equipment. The district expects to train 246 agriculture students and 75 nursing students in the first year.

Gov. Andy Beshear and U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers, who represents Kentucky’s 5th Congressional District, announced the grant Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at the SOAR Summit in Corbin. It is one of nine AMLER awards worth more than $22 million for nine Eastern Kentucky counties.
