Laurel County: $3.5 million AMLER grant for Wilderness Road Event Center (Oct. 9, 2026)

The City of London Convention and Tourism Commission won $3.5 million from the federal Abandoned Mine Lands Economic Revitalization (AMLER) program, announced Oct. 9, 2026, in Corbin by Gov. Andy Beshear and U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers (KY-05).

The City of London Convention and Tourism Commission in Laurel County, Kentucky, will receive $3.5 million to finish infrastructure at the Wilderness Road Event Center in London. Planners expect up to 65,000 visitors in the first two years and five full-time jobs when it opens.

Gov. Andy Beshear and U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers, who represents Kentucky’s 5th Congressional District, announced the grant Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at the SOAR Summit in Corbin. It is one of nine AMLER awards worth more than $22 million for nine Eastern Kentucky counties. AMLER is federal money meant to help coal communities turn land and towns hurt by past mining into new jobs and services.
