The National Weather Service has Transylvania County, North Carolina, under a Flood Watch until 2 p.m. EDT Sunday, Oct. 11 (11 a.m. PDT) as the remnants of Isaias bring heavy rain to the mountains. Creeks can rise fast. Never drive through a flooded road.

NC Emergency Management said Saturday that rain, flash flooding, gusty winds, severe storms and minor coastal flooding are forecast across North Carolina into Sunday, with the heaviest rain in the mountains, where numerous flash floods are likely Saturday and Saturday night (https://x.com/NCEmergency/status/2108959507468505288).

The National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C., has a Flood Watch for Transylvania County until 2 p.m. EDT Sunday, Oct. 11 (11 a.m. PDT). NWS says heavy rain is most likely Saturday afternoon through early Sunday, especially along the south- and east-facing Blue Ridge Escarpment near the state line west of I-26 and in the steep terrain from near Saluda to Grandfather Mountain. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks and low-water crossings may flood.

Wind: NWS Greenville-Spartanburg also has a High Wind Warning for the higher mountains of Transylvania County until 8 a.m. EDT Sunday, Oct. 11 (5 a.m. PDT), with gusts up to 60 mph above 3,500 feet and up to 50 mph lower down. Trees and power lines can come down, and widespread power outages are expected at higher elevations.

What to do: never drive or walk into floodwater. Turn around, don't drown. If you live along a creek or in a valley, know how you would get to higher ground and be ready to move quickly if water rises, especially at night. Keep your phone charged and turn on emergency alerts. Check roads at https://DriveNC.gov before you go.
