Lambertville council Oct. 15: Hurricane Ida fund refund, high school redevelopment extension and a crosswalk grant delay
Lambertville's Mayor and Council hold their monthly voting session Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip L. Pittore Justice Center and on Zoom. The agenda also lists the 2025 tax sale on Oct. 20 and fall events through Thanksgiving.
The Mayor and Council of the City of Lambertville in Hunterdon County will hold their monthly voting session on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, starting at 7 p.m. Eastern time. The meeting is in person at the Phillip L. Pittore Justice Center and will also stream live on Zoom, according to the city clerk's notice. Action will be taken at the meeting.
Hurricane Ida money goes back. The council will consider returning $117,452.76 to the Municipal Excess Liability Fund (MEL). MEL advanced the city $250,000 after Hurricane Ida in September 2021. A final accounting found the city used $132,547.24 for damage to the justice center, debris removal, emergency sheltering and protective measures, storm drain repairs, a pickup truck and a city park, leaving the balance to be refunded.
High school redevelopment. Another resolution would again extend K. Hovnanian Homes' conditional designation as redeveloper of the former Lambertville High School redevelopment area. The developer has proposed 200 townhomes there, 40 of them set aside as affordable housing. The city first gave the conditional designation in August 2022 and has extended it several times since.
Crosswalk grant needs more time. The city plans to ask the New Jersey Department of Transportation for an extension on a $264,915 state grant for improvements to South Union and Swan streets. The grant requires the project to be awarded by Oct. 25, 2026, but the city still has to settle questions from the State Historic Preservation Office and NJDOT about the bricks planned for the crosswalk.
Other money items: September property tax overpayment refunds; two tax lien redemptions; adding $2,615.45 to the 2026 budget from a shared-services agreement with West Amwell Township for affordable housing (COAH) services; and acceptance of the city's 2026 Best Practice Inventory score of 42, which the resolution says means the state will not hold back 2027 state aid.
Gas tax resolution. The council will also consider a resolution asking the New Jersey Legislature and the governor to repeal the state's automatic motor fuel tax adjustment, often called the gas tax escalator, and to require a direct vote of the Legislature for any future fuel tax increase. Lebanon and Kingwood townships have sent the city copies of similar resolutions.
Also on the agenda: approval of minutes from Sept. 17 and Oct. 1, monthly department reports, the bills list, and a Hunterdon County Planning Board notice of a public hearing on the county bicycle plan on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m. There are no ordinances up for first or second reading. Residents can speak during public comment near the start and the end of the meeting.
Dates from the city: Pet Parade on Saturday, Oct. 17 (rain date Oct. 18); tax sale for unpaid 2025 property tax and sewer balances on Tuesday, Oct. 20; Halloween Parade on Sunday, Oct. 25, stepping off at 3 p.m. at Mary Sheridan Park; trick-or-treating on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.; and the Greater Lambertville Chamber of Commerce Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, Nov. 26.
