Red Flag Warning: Lander County, NV — critical fire weather until 11 p.m. PDT Saturday, Oct. 10

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Elko issued this Red Flag Warning at 11:01 a.m. PDT Saturday, Oct. 10. It is in effect now until 11 p.m. PDT Saturday, Oct. 10. A Red Flag Warning means critical fire weather is happening now or will start soon. It is the highest fire-weather alert NWS issues.
Where: Fire weather zones in northern Nevada: southeastern Humboldt and northern Lander counties; the Quinn River area of Humboldt County; western Elko County and northern Eureka and Lander counties north of Interstate 80; and central and eastern Elko County. Parts of Lander County are inside the warning area; check the NWS map to see whether your spot is included.
Weather: NWS forecasts Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 25 to 40 mph and humidity as low as 15 to 25 percent. NWS says any fire that develops will likely spread rapidly, and outdoor burning is not recommended.
What to do: do not burn yard debris, use a campfire or do anything that throws sparks (mowing dry grass, dragging trailer chains, target shooting). Do not park on dry grass. If a fire starts, call 911 right away. Know your evacuation route and keep your phone charged so you can get alerts.
