The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners met Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, and the county posted a summary of the meeting from Yerington, Nevada, on Oct. 5. Here is what the board did.

Ambulances and EMS: The board unanimously approved three subawards from the county’s $4.29 million Rural Health Transformation Program grant, which it accepted Sept. 17. Mason Valley Fire Protection District gets $420,000 for an ambulance and EMT/paramedic staff; North Lyon County Fire Protection District gets $330,000 for an ambulance; and Smith Valley Fire Protection District gets $506,350 for an ambulance and EMT/paramedic staff. That is $1,256,350 in all. The board also approved a contract of up to $296,471 with Public Consulting Group, paid by the same grant, to review EMS and Human Services billing and find ways to collect more of it.

Courthouse parking: Commissioners accepted a $699,888 bid from Sentinel Builders LLC, plus up to 5% for unforeseen costs, for the Lyon County Courthouse Site Improvements Project, which will enlarge the secured parking area. It is paid from the Public Safety Sales Tax Fund.

Land and water: The board approved a zoning map amendment for a 3.95-acre parcel in Mason Valley, from rural residential RR-5 to Rural Residential with a 1-acre minimum (RR-1). It also voted to send the Nevada State Engineer a recommendation of approval on water-rights change application 95277T, for temporary use of about 26 acre-feet for dust control and construction in Mineral County. The recommendation is not binding; the State Engineer decides.

Housing ordinance: Commissioner Hendrix proposed an ordinance to bring county code in line with Nevada Assembly Bill 241. It would allow certain multifamily or mixed-use housing on commercially zoned land and require all new multifamily developments to be served by public water and sewer, with developers paying connection, capacity and infrastructure costs. Watch the agenda center for its next step.

Other actions: The board adopted its 2026–2027 legislative principles for the 84th session of the Nevada Legislature, acknowledged a resignation from the Central Lyon County Park & Recreation Board, and approved a letter supporting Storey County’s request to correct ZIP code boundaries there. Sheriff Brad Pope presented Deputy Wheeler with the Life Saving Award for quick action that saved an inmate’s life at the jail on Sept. 3.
