Nye County commissioners will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, on Nye County Bill 2026-14. The bill would set new rules for data centers and the equipment and buildings that support them.

How to speak by phone: Call 1-888-585-9008 and enter conference room number 255-432-824. When the chair opens public comment, press *9 to raise your hand. When it is your turn, say and spell your first and last name. Each person gets up to three minutes. The county warns that technical problems can sometimes block call-ins.

Other ways to take part: The agenda invites people to send written comments on agenda items. Public teleconference sites will be open in Tonopah, Pahrump and Beatty. To watch, go to nyecountynv.gov or the county video page at http://nyecounty.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=4 — the video runs about 40 seconds behind the phone line.

What the bill does: It would change Chapter 17.10 of the Nye County Code to set land use rules, special use permit requirements and development standards for data centers and related infrastructure. It updates Section 17.10.010 (Definitions), Section 17.10.020 (Purpose and Intent) and Section 17.10.50 (Requirement to Obtain a Special Use Permit). It also adds a new Section 17.10.155 (Data Center Special Use Permit Requirements).

What could happen: The board may adopt the bill, change it and then adopt it, or reject it. The hearing is Item 6 on the agenda, set for 10 a.m. Public hearings keep their set time, but other items may move. If the meeting does not finish, items could carry over to 8:30 a.m. the next day.

This is a joint meeting. Along with the Board of County Commissioners, the agenda lists the county highway board, the licensing and liquor board, the board of health, the governing body for the towns of Pahrump, Beatty, Gabbs and Manhattan, and the Pahrump Pool District trustees. The data center hearing is heard by the Board of County Commissioners.
