Nye County: flood watch and wind advisory Saturday through Monday morning (Oct. 10–12, 2026)
Nye County and the National Weather Service warn that tropical moisture from the remains of Hurricane Rachel could bring flash flooding to Nye County this weekend, with south winds gusting 45 to 55 mph from Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday.
Nye County sent a countywide alert on Oct. 9, 2026: a flood watch and wind advisory cover the whole county from Saturday, Oct. 10, into Monday morning, Oct. 12.
Rain: The National Weather Service says deep tropical moisture from the remains of Hurricane Rachel may set off heavy showers and thunderstorms. Flash flooding is possible on roads, washes, low-water crossings and drainage areas. In central and southern Nye County the watch starts Saturday; in northern Nye County (NWS Elko) it runs from Saturday evening through late Sunday night. Recent wildfire burn scars are at higher risk of flash floods and debris flows.
Wind: South winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 45 to 55 mph are expected from Saturday afternoon until 5 a.m. Monday, with a likely lull late Saturday night into Sunday morning. Expect blowing dust, loose objects blown around, downed limbs and possible power outages.
What to do: never drive into a flooded road or wash, tie down outdoor items, and have more than one way to get a Flash Flood Warning.
