Baker advisory board meets Oct. 15: Great Basin park's 40th birthday, speed flashers and 2027 members
The Baker Area Citizens Advisory Board, which advises the White Pine County Commission, meets Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, at 5 p.m. Pacific time at the Snake Valley Community Center in Baker. The meeting is open to the public, with two public comment periods.
The Baker Area Citizens Advisory Board will meet on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, at 5 p.m. Nevada time (Pacific time) at the Snake Valley Community Center in Baker, according to the agenda posted in White Pine County's online Agenda Center. All of the board's meetings are open to the public.
The board is a group of local residents that helps the White Pine County Commission make decisions about projects and issues in the Baker area, the small community on the east side of the county near Great Basin National Park and the Utah line.
Big item: Great Basin National Park turns 40. The board will talk about, and may act on, plans for a 40th anniversary celebration at the park on Friday, Oct. 23. Congress created the park in October 1986, and it is home to Wheeler Peak, Lehman Caves and groves of ancient bristlecone pines.
The board will also discuss membership on the board for 2027 and may take action on it. Residents who are curious about serving can learn more by attending.
Two updates are on the list. One is on new light fixtures for the Baker Hall parking lot. The other is from the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) about speed flashers in Baker, the flashing signs that warn drivers to slow down.
The board will also vote on approving minutes from its July meeting, handle any other business, and set the date and time of its next meeting.
How to take part: the public can speak during a public comment period near the start of the meeting and again near the end. Under Nevada's open meeting law, the board cannot take action on a new topic raised in public comment until it is put on a future agenda as an action item. The agenda notes that a motion may close part of a meeting only for the limited personnel reasons the law allows.
