Payne County: Cushing medical supply owner gets 14 years in $30 million health-care fraud (Oct. 9, 2026)

Dr. Mark Loftis of Cushing, Okla., was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for a scheme that tried to bill Medicare, TRICARE and CHAMPVA more than $30 million for medical equipment patients did not want or need, the VA Office of Inspector General reported.

A Cushing, Oklahoma, medical supply company owner, Dr. Mark Loftis, was sentenced on Oct. 9, 2026, to 14 years in prison, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General (VA OIG).

Investigators say the years-long scheme tried to bill Medicare, TRICARE (military health care) and CHAMPVA (care for families of certain veterans) more than $30 million for durable medical equipment — items like braces and supplies — that patients did not want or need.

The case was investigated by the VA OIG, the HHS Office of Inspector General, the FBI and the Defense Criminal Investigative Service.

Spot equipment fraud: check your Medicare or TRICARE statements for supplies you never ordered, and report them to the HHS OIG hotline (1-800-447-8477) or the VA OIG hotline (https://www.vaoig.gov/hotline).
