New U.S. 97 interchange at Lower Bridge Way opens in Terrebonne with safer paths and crossings
ODOT and Deschutes County marked completion of the $39 million U.S. 97 safety project through Terrebonne on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026. A new full-access interchange at Lower Bridge Way ends left turns across highway traffic, and new sidewalks, bike lanes and crossings link the school and neighborhoods.
The Oregon Department of Transportation said on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, that it joined local leaders and the Terrebonne community on Monday, Oct. 12, to celebrate finished safety improvements on U.S. 97 through Terrebonne in Deschutes County.
The big change for drivers. A new full-access interchange at U.S. 97 and Lower Bridge Way lets drivers get on and off the highway without turning left across highway traffic. A dog-bone-style roundabout layout beneath the interchange keeps local traffic moving.
South end of town. A series of gentle curves is designed to slow drivers entering Terrebonne, and a new turnaround lets southbound drivers safely change direction and head north on U.S. 97.
Walking and biking. New and improved sidewalks, bike lanes and shoulders, plus better pedestrian crossings, connect Terrebonne Community School with nearby neighborhoods and other destinations. The project also upgraded pavement, signs, striping and lighting.
Cost. ODOT says the project cost $39 million, including $20 million from Oregon's 2017 transportation package (House Bill 2017) and $10 million from Deschutes County.
