Local brief

Oregon voter registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 13; counties start mailing ballots Oct. 14

Oregonians have until Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, to register to vote for the Nov. 3 general election, and county elections offices begin mailing ballots on Wednesday, Oct. 14, the Oregon Secretary of State's office said.

The deadline to register to vote in Oregon for the Nov. 3, 2026, general election is Tuesday, Oct. 13, and county elections officials will begin sending ballots to voters on Wednesday, Oct. 14, according to the Oregon Secretary of State's office.

Oregon votes by mail, so every registered voter gets a ballot at the address on file. If you have moved or changed your name, updating your registration by the deadline is the way to make sure the ballot reaches you.

To mark the start of ballot mailing, Secretary of State Tobias Read and Daniel Cortez, president of the American Postal Workers Union in Oregon, will hold a "Get Ready to Vote" news conference on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 10:15 a.m. Pacific time at the Portland Building in downtown Portland. They plan to explain how voters can track their ballot and the best ways to get a ballot back on time.

Anyone can watch: the news conference will be livestreamed on the Secretary of State's YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-uhrJb4hmU).

Check or update your registration, find your county elections office, and look up ballot tracking and return options at OregonVotes.gov (https://oregonvotes.gov), the Secretary of State's official elections site. Your county elections office can also answer questions about official drop box locations and deadlines.
