Local brief
Wheeler County elections: the clerk’s door and the November 3, 2026 dates
Wheeler County’s elections officer is Brenda Snow Potter. Statewide dates still apply: register by October 13, 2026, ballots start October 14, Election Day is November 3.
The state page opened October 3, 2026 says the registration deadline is October 13 and that counties begin mailing ballots to active voters on October 14. Inactive registrations do not get a ballot until they are fixed. Statewide races are on every ballot, including Governor and U.S. Senator. There are no statewide ballot measures. Party affiliation does not change what is on a general-election ballot. Local lines still depend on the address on the registration.
A mailed ballot must be postmarked by Election Day. The state says a postmarked ballot can arrive up to seven days later and still count, and that the safer mail date is October 27. A drop-box ballot must be in by 8 p.m. on November 3. The drop-box locator is planned about 20 days before Election Day. Sign the return envelope yourself. If the signature does not match, or you forgot to sign, the county sends a challenge. You have 21 days after the election to fix it. Notice Nearby does not register voters and does not certify results.
Wheeler County’s elections page, opened October 3, 2026, names the elections officer as Brenda Snow Potter and gives the email clerk@wheelercountyor.gov. That is the local door for a replacement ballot or a drop-box question. The page did not, in the lines copied here, list drop-box streets. Do not invent them. The Blue Book lists wheelercountyoregon.com and Fossil as the seat. The county was established February 17, 1899.
A four-year commissioner term and a six-year judge term explain why not every county office is on every ballot. Read the ballot you receive. Do not assume both commissioner seats and the judge are up in 2026. NEEDS VERIFY which Wheeler offices are actually on this ballot until the clerk’s candidate list is opened.
