Flood Watch: Tooele County, UT — flash flooding possible through Monday as Tropical Storm Rachel's moisture arrives

The National Weather Service office in Salt Lake City has a Flood Watch for Tooele County from 12 a.m. MDT Sunday, Oct. 11 (11 p.m. PDT) through 6 p.m. MDT Monday, Oct. 12 (5 p.m. PDT). Moisture from the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel is expected to bring rounds of heavy rain.

In northern Utah, NWS says runoff may flood rivers, creeks and recent burn scars such as Rocky Canyon, along with streets and poor-drainage areas in towns and cities.

Utah's Division of Emergency Management warned that wildfire burn scars can stay at risk for mudslides for at least five years, and said that if you live below a burn scar and it is raining, no one should sleep in the basement (https://x.com/UtahEmergency/status/2108717582757028094).

What to do: stay out of slot canyons and dry washes, and check the forecast before hiking. Never drive into a flooded road or wash. If you live below a burn scar, know your way to higher ground and keep your phone on for emergency alerts.
