What is happening: At 1:25 a.m. MST, river gauges on West Clear Creek into Verde Lakes and Camp Verde, Fossil Creek, the East Verde River, and the Verde River south of Camp Verde were reporting high flows that will flood low-water crossings.

Places named by NWS: Camp Verde along West Clear Creek, Verde Lakes, Childs Power Plant, Rockin' River Ranch State Park, Cedar Bench Wilderness, Fossil Springs Wilderness, West Clear Creek Wilderness, Indian Maiden Falls, and Clear Creek Group Campgrounds. Creeks and rivers named include Houston Creek, Gap Creek, Bull Run Creek, Pigeon Creek, West Clear Creek, Cold Water Creek, Chasm Creek, Hardscrabble Creek, Long Canyon, Fossil Creek, East Verde River and the Verde River.

Swimming holes: NWS says flooding includes swimming holes and waterfalls on Fossil Creek, Bull Pen Day Use Area, West Clear Creek near the campground, Fossil Creek Dam ("The Toilet Bowl") and Indian Maiden Falls. Stay out of those areas until the warning ends.

What to do: Turn around, don't drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles. Never drive or walk into floodwater; six inches of moving water can knock you down and one to two feet can carry away a car. Avoid low-water crossings. If water rises, move to higher ground.
