Caltrans District 7 said Wednesday, Oct. 14, that Topanga Canyon Boulevard (State Route 27) between Mulholland Highway and Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1) will be restricted to residents only from 6 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, because of elevated fire danger. The stretch runs through Topanga in Los Angeles County, California.
Caltrans urges drivers to check QuickMap (https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov) for current road conditions before traveling. Caltrans did not name a detour in its announcement.
Why: The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has a Red Flag Warning (KLOX.FW.W.0005) from 6 a.m. Thursday to 8 p.m. PDT Saturday, Oct. 17, covering the Western and Eastern Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area zones, the Malibu Coast and much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. NWS forecasts northeast to east winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 45 to 55 mph, isolated gusts to 65 mph, and minimum humidity of 8 to 15 percent, and says any new fire could show extreme fire behavior that threatens life and property.
