Coastal Flood Warning: Los Angeles County, CA, as Tropical Storm Rachel moves in (through 3 p.m. PT Sunday)

The National Weather Service has Los Angeles County, California, under a Coastal Flood Warning until 3 p.m. PT Sunday, Oct. 11, tied to Tropical Storm Rachel. Stay off beaches at high tide.

The National Weather Service office in Los Angeles/Oxnard, CA has a Coastal Flood Warning for parts of Los Angeles County until 3 p.m. PT Sunday, Oct. 11. NWS says it covers malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches; and catalina and Santa Barbara Islands. For vulnerable south-facing beaches, especially Long Beach and Malibu, damaging sea-water flooding is likely. For all other beaches and harbors, minor coastal flooding is expected. High surf of 5 to 8 feet is also expected with strong rip currents.

At 11 a.m. PT Saturday, Oct. 10, the National Hurricane Center (NHC Intermediate Advisory 54A) placed Tropical Storm Rachel about 490 miles south-southwest of San Diego, California, moving northeast at 22 mph with top sustained winds near 60 mph. A northeastward to north-northeastward motion with a further increase in forward speed is expected through Sunday. On the forecast track, the center of Rachel is expected to approach northern Baja California today and move onshore tonight.
