What to do: never drive or walk into floodwater; 6 inches of moving water can knock you down, and 1 to 2 feet can float a car. Do not drive around barricades. Stay away from riverbanks. If you live near the Shoal River, especially on the south bank near Crestview or around Trevor Court, move valuables and vehicles to higher ground now and be ready to leave if water rises. Floodwater can hide downed power lines, debris and damaged roads. Report flooded roads to 911 only if someone is in danger.
