NWS Mobile, Alabama issued an Extreme Wind Warning for southern Santa Rosa County at 5:45 p.m. CDT (3:45 p.m. PT) Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, as Hurricane Isaias's eyewall moved onshore. It runs until 8:45 p.m. CDT (6:45 p.m. PT). NWS says to take cover now in an interior room away from windows.

TAKE COVER NOW. NWS Mobile, Alabama issued an Extreme Wind Warning for southern Santa Rosa County, Florida, at 5:45 p.m. CDT (3:45 p.m. PT) Friday, Oct. 9, 2026. Expires 8:45 p.m. CDT Friday, Oct. 9, 2026 (6:45 p.m. PT). After that time this warning is no longer in effect unless NWS extends or reissues it; check https://www.weather.gov for current alerts.

At 5:44 p.m. CDT, NWS Doppler radar and hurricane aircraft reconnaissance indicated extreme winds, associated with the eyewall of Hurricane Isaias, moving onshore along a line from 18 miles south of Pensacola Beach to 11 miles south of Mary Esther to 17 miles south of Santa Rosa Beach, moving north at 15 mph. NWS called it "an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation."

The same NWS Mobile warning covers southern Okaloosa County, southern Santa Rosa County and southeastern Escambia County in northwestern Florida. Locations NWS listed as impacted: Pensacola, Ferry Pass, Brent, West Pensacola, Wright, Fort Walton Beach, Ensley, Warrington, Niceville, Destin, Eglin AFB, Pace, Milton, Valparaiso, Gulf Breeze, Goulding, Mary Esther, Bagdad, Ocean City and Lake Lorraine.

NWS safety instruction, verbatim: "TAKE COVER NOW! Treat these imminent extreme winds as if a tornado was approaching and move immediately to the safe room in your shelter. Take action now to protect your life!" NWS adds: "The safest place to be during a major landfalling hurricane is in a reinforced interior room away from windows. Get under a table or other piece of sturdy furniture. Use mattresses, blankets or pillows to cover your head and body. Remain in place through the passage of these life-threatening conditions."
