At 4:00 a.m. CDT (0900 UTC) on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the center of Tropical Storm Isaias was near latitude 22.0 north, longitude 94.1 west. That is about 285 miles west of Progreso, Mexico, and about 580 miles southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River. Maximum sustained winds were near 40 mph. The storm was moving east-northeast near 8 mph. Minimum central pressure was 1004 mb.
There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect at that advisory. The National Hurricane Center said hurricane watches will likely be required for a portion of the U.S. northern Gulf coast later today. Interests in the Yucatan Peninsula and along the northern Gulf Coast should monitor the forecast.
A continued east-northeast motion was expected Wednesday, then a turn toward the northeast and north on Thursday and Friday. On that track, Isaias is expected to pass north of the Yucatan Peninsula on Thursday and approach the U.S. northern Gulf Coast on Friday. The track guidance still spreads from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle.
Rapid strengthening is forecast. Isaias is expected to become a hurricane by Thursday. The intensity forecast peaks near 95 kt, about 110 mph, in 48 hours over the central Gulf. Shear increases before the coast. The discussion says a significant hurricane at landfall is looking more likely.
From Friday through the weekend, rainfall of 3 to 6 inches, with localized totals up to 10 inches, is forecast from far southeastern Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. One to 3 inches, locally up to 5, is possible across much of the Southeast as far north as the Tennessee Valley and the Carolinas. Flash and urban flooding, and isolated river flooding, will be possible.
