Tools for the notice on the table
By Ryan Standley, Publisher / Authorized Officer, Record of Sale, LLC
These five pages are scratch pads for numbers that show up in local government mail: a new assessed value, a bond question, a county budget, a water rate, and a waiver on a large campus. Each one multiplies what you type. None of them looks up your parcel, certifies a levy, or tells you how to vote.
The notice in the mail is a valuation event
Prior value, new value, mills or an effective rate, and an exemption. See the dollar jump and the rate cut that would hold the old bill still.
What a bond measure costs on the kitchen table
Principal, years, and a rate or a millage add-on. See a rough annual debt service, the share per household, and the share per $100,000 of taxable value.
Where one dollar of a county budget actually goes
Type a budget total and up to six buckets in dollars or percents. See each bucket as cents of one dollar, plus the dollars those cents represent.
The rate ordinance, written as a monthly bill
Monthly use in ccf or gallons, old and new base charges, old and new volumetric rates. See the old bill, the new bill, and the dollar and percent increase.
Who covers the gap when a data center’s value is waived
Abated assessed value, millage, and an optional remaining tax base. See the annual tax not collected, the multi-year total, and what the gap would mean for everyone else.
