Ended: This Flash Flood Warning ended at 5:15 a.m. EDT Sunday, Oct. 11 (2:15 a.m. PDT), and the National Weather Service no longer lists it as of 6:05 a.m. PDT Sunday, Oct. 11. What happened: Heavy rain fell on ground that was already soaked. The National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg warned that flash flooding was happening or about to start. Earlier rain produced 3 to 6 inches across eastern Transylvania, Henderson, and Polk counties, saturating area soils and causing scattered areas of nuisance flooding.
Where: The warning covers eastern Transylvania County. Places NWS named in the warning area include Hendersonville, Brevard, Columbus, Mills River, Fletcher, Flat Rock, Etowah, Mountain Home, Laurel Park and Tryon. NWS is most concerned about areas along the Little River from Cedar Mountain to Penrose; the Davidson River near Pisgah Forest; the French Broad River from Brevard to Mills River; Mud Creek from Crab Creek to Hendersonville to Mountain Home; White Oak Creek from Mill Spring to Green Creek; and Boylston Creek near Forge Mountain.
Until when: The warning ran until 5:15 a.m. EDT Sunday, Oct. 11 (2:15 a.m. PDT) and has ended.
What to do: Turn around, don't drown. Never drive or walk into floodwater. Six inches of moving water can knock you down, and one to two feet can carry away a car. Stay away from creeks, streams, rivers and low roads. Do not drive around barricades. If water starts rising near you, go to higher ground right away. Flooded roads are hard to see at night.
