CBP says officers found about $628,000 in cocaine in a Nissan Rogue at Laredo’s Juarez-Lincoln Bridge

CBP says officers at Laredo's Juarez-Lincoln Bridge found 18 packages, more than 47 pounds of alleged cocaine worth about $628,458, hidden in a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The driver and passenger were arrested; HSI is investigating.

Officers at Laredo's Juarez-Lincoln Bridge found about $628,458 worth of suspected cocaine hidden inside a 2017 Nissan Rogue, U.S. Customs and Border Protection says. That is $628 thousand, not $628 million. It is still a lot of money to tuck inside a small crossover.

The stop happened Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2026, at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge, according to CBP's Oct. 5, 2026 national media release. A CBP officer sent the Rogue to secondary inspection. That is the closer second look some vehicles get after the first booth.

The driver was a 35-year-old woman from Mexico. Her passenger was a 30-year-old man who is a U.S. citizen. The release does not name either of them.

Officers used a drug-sniffing dog and a non-intrusive inspection system, which is an X-ray-style scanner for vehicles. Together they found 18 packages hidden inside the Rogue. CBP says the packages held 47.06 pounds of alleged cocaine. That is about the weight of a big bag of dog food, a comparison the dog would probably appreciate.

CBP estimated the street value at $628,458. Both the driver and the passenger were arrested. CBP seized the drugs and the Rogue. Special agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) are investigating.

"This seizure demonstrates the dedication and vigilance of our officers at the Laredo Port of Entry," Port Director Albert Flores said in the CBP release. He added that CBP "remain committed to safeguarding our communities by preventing dangerous narcotics from entering the country."

Laredo is a very busy crossing. More than $350 billion in trade moved through the Laredo port of entry in 2025, and nearly 40% of all U.S.-Mexico trade goes through it, according to prior CBP reporting on the port. Lanes that busy are where a good nose earns its keep.

An arrest is not a conviction. The release lists no charges or court dates. Anyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
