Clackamas County asks residents to rank public safety services by Nov. 15 before the Public Safety Levy returns to voters

Clackamas County plans to put its Public Safety Levy, first passed in 2006, back before voters in spring 2027, and it is asking residents to take a short survey by Nov. 15, 2026, on which sheriff's services matter most to them. The county also reminds Oregonians that Tuesday, Oct. 13, is the voter registration deadline for the Nov. 3 general election.

Clackamas County is gathering public input on its Public Safety Levy before asking voters to renew it. The county's Oct. 12, 2026, newsletter says it plans to bring the levy back to voters in spring 2027, and the county's levy page names May 2027.

Take the survey by Nov. 15. The county wants to know which public safety services residents value most. The short online survey is open until Nov. 15, 2026: https://clackamascountyor.abalancingact.com/public-safety-levy-priorities.

What the levy pays for now. Voters first passed the levy in 2006, and it has supported law enforcement in the county for 20 years. The county says it funds about 17% of the Sheriff's Office's core services, including patrol deputies who answer 911 calls, a drug enforcement team, detectives who investigate elder abuse, human trafficking and violent crime, and jail staffing. The levy page also lists mental health resources and body-worn cameras.

Demand for patrol. According to the county, the Sheriff's Office took more than 57,000 calls for service in 2025, and patrol deputies cover more than 1,800 square miles.

Also from the county this week. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, is the voter registration deadline for the Nov. 3 general election, which includes local measures (details: https://www.clackamas.us/news/2026-10-09/tuesday-oct-13-is-the-voter-registration-deadline). On Wednesday, Oct. 15, the county holds a town hall on land use rule changes for housing development that it is making to comply with state law (https://www.clackamas.us/planning/code-amendments-to-protect-natural-resources-in-housing-development).

Recent county news in the same newsletter included $1 million in grants to 18 tourism businesses, the North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District's final agreements with Milwaukie on a $4.8 million Milwaukie Bay Park project, and the new roundabout at Childs Road and Stafford Road.
