Documented decorations

After the September 11 attacks, Clayton Welch Henson enlisted and went to Iraq with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment. On 17 April 2004 his convoy was ambushed in Diwaniyah; he was twenty. The Department of Veterans Affairs’ #VeteranOfTheDay profile names a posthumous Bronze Star and Purple Heart for that service. This decorations page records those two types from that VA list and will not invent a Combat “V” or oak-leaf count the VA paragraph does not carry.

Born 25 August 1983 in Big Spring, Texas, and raised around Stanton and Midland, Henson is interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton. The Bronze Star and Purple Heart are the published decoration names. Family remembrances of duty after 9/11 are public fact. They are not printed here as a third medal.
