Jason L. Dunham covered a grenade with his helmet and body near Karabilah on April 14, 2004. He died eight days later at Bethesda. The Medal of Honor citation is the naval record of the date, the company, and the helmet. The Purple Heart follows the wounds.

He is on the Iraq roll and buried at Fairlawn Cemetery in Scio, New York. The decorations row there shows the Purple Heart only from this batch. A destroyer’s name is a public honor, not a second medal.
