Jules Herman Sitrick

Jules Herman Sitrick’s Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart are named in the Department of Veterans Affairs’ #VeteranOfTheDay profile of his World War II service with the 83rd Infantry Division. This decorations page records those two types from that VA list. It will not invent a Combat “V,” oak-leaf count, or Silver Star the VA paragraph does not carry.

As a young replacement after the Normandy landings, Sitrick was wounded by shrapnel and stayed in the line through Brittany, France, and Luxembourg. During the Battle of the Bulge he sheltered in a bombed-out Ardennes farmhouse and, by the VA account, held twenty-one German soldiers until Patton’s armor arrived the next morning. That wartime story is the public record on the VA page. The Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart are the published decoration names. They are not the same sentence as the later French Legion of Honor (2017), which is not a U.S. decorations-row chip here.

He is not yet on a war-roll essay. Postwar advertising work in the Chicago area and burial after his death in January 2019 at age 93 are public fact. They are not printed here as medals.
