Lee completed BUD/S after an earlier medical setback, joined SEAL Team 3’s Charlie Platoon, and deployed to Ramadi. On 2 August 2006, after a casualty evacuation, his element returned to the fight; he exposed himself to machine-gun fire to cover teammates and was mortally wounded. He was the first Navy SEAL killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was twenty-eight. Burial at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery is public fact. The Silver Star, Bronze Star with Valor, and Purple Heart are the published decoration names.
