Roy P. Benavidez walked into a clearing west of Loc Ninh on May 2, 1968, and was hit until a medical station listed him dead. The Medal of Honor citation is the Army’s later proof of those hours. The Purple Heart follows the wounds that citation already states.

This page will not invent a Bronze Star for him. Some later tallies add decorations this register has not seen in an official Army list we can cite here. Until that list is in front of us, the honest decorations on this first batch are the Purple Heart and the Medal of Honor already treated on his war page.

He came home. He died in San Antonio in 1998. A man who grew old after a citation is not missing, and a decorations page is not a place to enlarge the wound list beyond the public record.
