U.S. Army Medal of Honor biography states Rubin received two Purple Hearts during his service (in addition to the Prisoner of War Medal and, later, the Medal of Honor).

Tibor “Ted” Rubin’s Purple Hearts are named in the U.S. Army’s own Medal of Honor biography: two awards during his Korean War service, alongside the Prisoner of War Medal. The Army page does not list a Bronze Star Medal for him. This decorations register will not invent one.
The Medal of Honor citation — presented by President George W. Bush on September 23, 2005 — covers a long arc: the solitary defense that covered a withdrawal toward the Pusan Perimeter, the machine-gun stand at Unsan, and more than two years as a prisoner who stole food and nursed sick Americans in Chinese camps. That citation is the public record of valor. The Purple Hearts are the published record of wounds. They are not the same sentence.
Rubin survived Mauthausen as a boy and later enlisted to repay the Army that liberated him. That biography is public fact. It is not a decoration. He is not yet on the Korean War war roll. This page stands on the Army’s named awards until that essay is written.
