Abigail Smith Adams

Abigail Smith Adams died in Quincy, Massachusetts, on October 28, 1818. She was seventy-three. Born in Weymouth on November 22, 1744, she married John Adams in 1764 and spent the Revolution managing a farm, children, and a correspondence that is still the clearest window into that marriage. She told him to remember the ladies. She ran the house in his long absences, survived the vice-presidency and the presidency, and lived to see a son in the same office. The letters are not decoration. They are the work. Quincy holds both tombs. The parish church is the family vault.
