Ansel Easton Adams

Ansel Easton Adams died in Monterey, California, on April 22, 1984. He was eighty-two. Born in San Francisco on February 20, 1902, he made black-and-white photographs of the Sierra that taught a country how Yosemite was supposed to look, and he spent as much energy on the zone system and on conservation politics as on the famous moonrise. Carmel Highlands was the later studio. The negatives are a national archive. This memorial names Carmel, the coast he chose for the last decades. The range he photographed is the monument.
