Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald

Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald died in Hollywood on December 21, 1940. He was forty-four. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on September 24, 1896, he wrote This Side of Paradise and The Great Gatsby, books that made the 1920s look like a party and then like a verdict. He and Zelda Sayre lived the boom and the crash in public. The last years were studio work, debt, and a novel he did not finish. This memorial names St. Paul, the city of the beginning and of the houses on Summit Avenue. He is buried in Rockville, Maryland, with Zelda.
