Louisa May Alcott died in Boston on March 6, 1888, two days after her father. She was fifty-five. Born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, on November 29, 1832, and raised among the Concord Transcendentalists, she nursed in a Washington hospital, wrote potboilers for money, and then wrote Little Women, which paid the family's debts and made Orchard House a literary address.
She never married. She supported parents, a sister's child, and the reform causes of her day. Concord is the home this page names. The ridge holds the family.
