Orville Wright

Orville Wright died in Dayton, Ohio, on January 30, 1948. He was seventy-six. Born in Dayton on August 19, 1871, he was the younger brother in the partnership that made the first successful airplane, and the one who lived long enough to watch the world take the invention for granted. After Wilbur's death he sold the Wright Company, served on aeronautical boards, and kept a laboratory on Broadway. He was careful with credit and with the record of 1903. Hawthorn Hill in Oakwood was the house he built and the place visitors came to see the surviving brother. Dayton is the city of the shop, the field, and both graves.
