Board approves Peoples Bancorp–Citizens National bank merger
FRB Order No. 2026-24 (Sep 25, 2026) lets Peoples Bancorp of Marietta, Ohio, merge with Citizens National of Paintsville, Kentucky, and lets Peoples Bank absorb Citizens Bank of Kentucky and keep its branches.
On September 25, 2026, the Federal Reserve Board announced approval of Peoples Bancorp Inc.’s application to merge with Citizens National Corporation. Peoples Bank would merge with Citizens Bank of Kentucky, Inc., and keep operating branches at Citizens Bank’s main office and branch locations.
The Board’s written order (FRB Order No. 2026-24) says Peoples Bancorp had about $9.5 billion in consolidated assets and about $7.6 billion in deposits before the deal. After closing, the combined firm would have about $9.7 billion in assets and about $8.2 billion in deposits — still under 1 percent of nationwide insured deposits.
Notice of the proposal ran in the Federal Register. The Board received twelve adverse comments and said it weighed them under the Bank Holding Company Act, the Bank Merger Act, and the Federal Reserve Act. The Justice Department reviewed competitive effects as the Bank Merger Act requires.
