Dallas and New York Feds post FAQs for private-credit pilot survey

On September 2, 2026, the Dallas and New York Reserve Banks released FAQs for a forthcoming pilot survey of the U.S. private credit direct-lending market after announcing the pilot on August 5.

The Federal Reserve Banks of Dallas and New York are launching a pilot survey of the U.S. private credit direct-lending market. On August 5, 2026, they announced the pilot; on September 2, 2026, they posted frequently asked questions for respondents and the public.

The Banks estimate the U.S. direct lending market at more than $1.3 trillion — comparable in size to the high-yield bond and leveraged-loan markets they cite. The survey is meant to shed light on credit availability, how credit is provided, and how underwriting and structures are changing.

The survey segments borrowers by size: upper middle market (more than $100 million EBITDA), middle market ($30–$100 million), and lower middle market (under $30 million). Sign-up and contact details are on the Dallas Fed release pages.
