Benjamin Alvarado’s Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart Medal are named in the Department of Veterans Affairs’ #VeteranOfTheDay profile of his Third Army infantry service in France. Born in 1924 in Argentine, Kansas City, and drafted in 1943, Alvarado landed in the second wave on Omaha Beach with the 317th Infantry of the 80th Infantry Division. The VA account describes farmhouse shelter under shelling near St. Genevieve and shrapnel wounds near Moivron on 26 September 1944, then non-combat military police duty in Germany after England recovery. He died 26 January 2015. The Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart are the published decoration names here.
