Jennifer M. Moreno’s Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart are named in the Department of Veterans Affairs’ #VeteranOfTheDay profile of her Army nurse and Cultural Support Team service in Afghanistan. This decorations page records those two types from that VA sentence. A San Diego native and University of San Francisco nursing graduate, Moreno commissioned as a Nurse Corps officer, served at Madigan Army Medical Center, completed airborne training, and volunteered for U.S. Army Special Operations Command. Deployed with the 75th Ranger Regiment as a Cultural Support Team member, she was killed 6 October 2013 by an improvised explosive device in Kandahar’s Zhari district and was posthumously promoted to captain. She is buried at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. The Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart are the published decoration names placed on this row.
