LeRoy Alexander’s Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal are named in the Department of Veterans Affairs’ #VeteranOfTheDay profile of his Army Special Forces engineer service in Afghanistan. This decorations page records those two types from that VA sentence. Other medals VA lists (Meritorious Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal) are not re-badged on the decorations row. No Combat “V” or oak-leaf count is invented.
Raised in Dale City, Virginia, Alexander enlisted in August 1997, trained as an engineer and airborne soldier, then completed Special Forces qualification and joined 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group as a Special Forces engineer, reaching staff sergeant after Kosovo and Haiti tours. On 3 June 2005 an IED killed him and Capt. Charles D. Robinson near Forward Operating Base Orgun-E in Afghanistan; Alexander was twenty-seven and near the end of the deployment, with his wife expecting twins. The Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal are the published decoration names here.
